Our Emergency Home Repair Program provides financial assistance of up to $5,000 per home for emergency repairs to eligible homeowners. The goal is to address critical health and safety issues, ensuring homes are safe, secure, and habitable.
1. Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Ownership: You must be the legal owner-occupant of the home. Proof of ownership (deed, tax bill, etc.) is required.
- Residency: The home must be your primary residence.
- Income: Your household income must not exceed 75% of the Area Median Income (AMI) as determined by HUD.
- Repair Need: The requested repair must be an emergency that poses an immediate threat to the health, safety, or structural integrity of the home. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Failure of a heating system in winter.
- Severe roof leaks causing interior damage.
- Plumbing failures that prevent use of water or cause sanitation issues.
- Electrical hazards, such as exposed wiring or fire risks.
- Structural problems affecting the home’s stability.
2. Application Procedure
- Contact Us: The applicant must contact One Silverstar to express their need for emergency repair. We will conduct a brief initial screening by phone.
- Application Submission: If the initial screening indicates potential eligibility, an official application form will be provided. The applicant must complete the form and submit it with all required documentation, including:
- Proof of ownership and residency.
- Proof of income for all household members.
- Written estimates from at least two licensed and insured contractors for the proposed repair work.
Photos or a video of the emergency damage.
- Home Inspection: A representative from One Silverstar will schedule a visit to the home to verify the emergency nature of the repair and the scope of work.
- Review and Approval: The program committee will review the application, documentation, and inspection report. Decisions are based on the urgency of the need, eligibility, and the availability of funds.
3. Program Funding and Disbursement
- The maximum assistance per home is $5,000.
- Funding is a grant and does not need to be repaid.
- The approved funds will be paid directly to the contractor upon completion of the repair work and a final inspection by a One Silverstar representative. We do not provide funds directly to the homeowner.
- If the repair cost exceeds the $5,000 limit, the homeowner is responsible for paying the remaining balance to the contractor.
4. Exclusions
This program is for emergency repairs only and does not cover:
- Cosmetic or non-essential repairs (e.g., painting, landscaping).
- Additions or improvements to the home.
- Repairs that are covered by the homeowner’s insurance policy.
